HP Pavilion laptops

HP Pavilion laptops were HP’s mainstream home and student range, and the Pavilion x360 was its convertible 2-in-1. On 20 May 2024 HP retired the Pavilion name and moved its consumer laptops to the OmniBook brand, so new Pavilion models are no longer made. The closest match to a Pavilion x360 today is the HP OmniBook 5 Flip.

How an HP Flip 2-in-1 works

Every HP Flip laptop has a hinge that turns 360 degrees, just like the old Pavilion x360. You can type in laptop mode, fold the screen back into a tablet for reading or writing, stand it as a tent for videos, or flip the keyboard down for presentations. The touch screen works in all four positions.

OmniBook X Flip ports and size

Unlike many thin 2-in-1s, the OmniBook X 2-in-1 14 keeps full-size ports. HP lists a Thunderbolt 4 USB-C port at 40Gbps, a second USB-C at 10Gbps, HDMI 2.1, two USB-A 10Gbps ports and a headphone jack. It measures 31.3 x 21.8 x 1.5 cm and weighs 1.4 kg.

Thunderbolt 4, USB-C, HDMI 2.1 and two USB-A ports, so most monitors and drives plug straight in.

Good to know before you buy

If you are replacing an old Pavilion, a few things have changed in HP’s newer 2-in-1 laptops. Check these points before you order so the new laptop fits the way you work.

• No new Pavilion stock. HP stopped using the Pavilion name in 2024. Any “new Pavilion” sold today is old stock, so compare it against an OmniBook Flip.
• Memory is soldered. OmniBook Flip models use LPDDR5 or LPDDR5X memory on the board, so choose 16GB or 32GB at purchase.
• Check pen details. Every Flip has a touch screen for writing. Whether a pen comes in the box depends on the model, so ask us before you order.
• Office on some models. Some OmniBook 5 Flip models include Office Home and Student. The product page says which ones.
